Grant to support the development of statewide policies to integrate Expanded Learning Opportunities into the state education system.

New York State was one of five selected nationally to receive a $50,000 "Supporting Student Success" grant to support the development of statewide policies to integrate Expanded Learning Opportunities – including after-school, summer learning, and extended day and/or year programs – into New York State's education system.

Supporting Student Success (S3) grants are administered by the National Conference of State Legislatures. The S3 initiative is a joint project in collaboration with the National Governors Association (www.nga.org/center) and the Council of Chief State School Officers. New York State's proposal was selected by an independent selection committee, which found that it reflected promising strategies to support student success by making expanded learning an integral and effective part of New York's education system.

The New York State Afterschool Network (NYSAN) will coordinate the initiative to implement statewide ELO and education policies intended to heighten student engagement, boost student achievement and improve high school graduation rates. The After-School Corporation (TASC) is the grant recipient. State teams from Maine, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington also were selected to receive grants.

The New York State leadership team consists of education leaders from the Governor's office, the State Education Department, the State Legislature, the State Office of Children and Family Services, NYSAN, TASC and the Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy.
